Porthgwarra

 J and I have escaped for a little winter break to celebrate our birthday, and we've come to the tiny cove of Porthgwarra on the most south-westerly tip of Cornwall, not far from Land's End. Our holiday cottage is the small low building on the far right. I've never actually had a 'holiday' in Cornwall before! It feels rather nice to experience for oneself what all those holiday-makers come to Cornwall to experience, with the added bonus of being almost alone to enjoy it.

It was too dark to see anything when we arrived last night, so imagine our delight to wake up this morning and see this wonderful view from the sitting room. The seats at the bottom of the garden are perfect for wave-watching, and two seals were having a lovely time in the surf.

 I have never been to this particular part of the coast before......

the granite cliffs are quite spectacular.

 

There are two tunnels through the rock leading to the beach; I'm not sure if they are wholly natural or partly man-made, perhaps as an easier way of  bringing cargo up off the beach as the slipway itself is incredibly steep.

I spent most of today just wave-watching. Perfect.
